Our Giving Tree

My grandson and I made a giving tree table decoration yesterday. We only had stickers, construction paper and markers to work with so I wasn't able to whip up something on the computer! I loved how it turned out. The most fun was gathering the branches in the woods behind his house.  We also hung a few of my felt ornaments (I've been working on for xmas) as extra decorations. And I made two paper flowers to attach as well.

Grow Little

I love these terrariums from Grow Little. Based in Paris, the terrariums are made in hand blown glass vessels of various sizes, each is an original, hand made art piece with a unique miniature landscape. They are so beautiful.

Winter Cowl

Im working on a knitted winter Cowl...never made one before! I like what Aesthetic Nest did for the sewing vs. knitting challenge over at luv in the mommyhood. I think I might try sewing one too. This funky zebra pattern is pretty cool for fancier nights, but I'm always a sucker for a nice knit. You can get both of the patterns here!

Simple Baby Sling

Made my first sling last night for the new grand baby! My duaghter-n-law had Kily on Halloween, one week early! Her birth story was crazy! My son whi is in the Army, got deployed 2 weeks before. I was supposed to be here for the birth (I'm a birth doula too) but missed it. She ended up taking my grandson who is 2 to a friends at 8pm, drove herself to the hospital and had the baby with out anyone else there... except (this is so awesome!) my son was tracked down and was with her via live video for 5 hours. He labored with her and got to see and be apart of the birth of their daughter. Gotta love technology! I was so happy it worked out and she had a wonderful birth.

So when I got here (Clarksville, TN), I got on craiglist and bought an old sewing machine for $12! It took me a little while to figure it out but I finally did! The sling came out great and I even made one for my grandson (he wasn't real happy about wearing it for me!) You can get the pattern here!

Yes, I really posted this morning picture of myself!

Not too into wearing his sling!

Petal Textiles

I think often that I should live across the pond. Maybe its the tea drinking...or so much more. Today I stumbled upon artist Helen of Petal Textiles from Nottingham. She makes wonderful textile art. I love these little tea cozy's, it's such an old time craft yet her take is simply modern, so nice. She also has a wonderful pillow collection in this style.

Beautiful Collage

Shyama Helin makes beautiful collage art. I've seen her work expand from small pieces of lovelies to some large beauties! I'm loving her new collection, in particular the piece, "The Silence of Snow". I'm finding it hard not to make the purchase. I don't know if it's the season or just that the painting makes me feel so peaceful. I do love it so.

If your in Portland you should visit the opening she's having at Barile .
She also has a shop on Etsy where she sales some of her smaller works.
